September 13, 2014 – Elliot Steger Quartet
Award winning pianist, composer, and practicing physician, Elliot Steger will be joined by a talented group of Jazz artists. Mark Poniatowski, on acoustic bass, is on the faculty at the Berklee College of Music and has performed with Sid Caesar, Rita Moreno, Bob Newhart and live on WGBH. Jon Hazilla, on drums, is a recipient of a National Endowment of the Arts Award and on faculty at the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. Christine “Tina” Horn, on congas, plays djembe and percussion with Kellianna. The Klezwoods is an amalgam of strings, horns and percussion that melds the spirit of traditional klezmer and Balkan music with modern grooves, improvisation and original repertoire. Every player comes from a different background, which creates the band’s unique sound and style. They originally got their start some years back when local Cambridge, MA haunt, Atwoods Tavern, wanted music for a “Klezmer Christmas” event. Since that fateful day, The Klezwoods have played the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Helsinki Klezmer Festival in Finland, and recurrent festivals and concerts tours all over the world!
